Proposed Sikh War Memorial

A Sikh War Memorial dedicated to the contribution and participation of Sikhs in the world wars as part of the allied forces has been proposed to Blacktown City Council. The project is spearheaded by S. Amarinder Singh Bajwa, on behalf of the Sikh community worldwide.

The project would see unveiling of a bronze statute at the Glenwood Lake park, in Glenwood. The proposed memorial also commemorates and highlights the participation of Sikh soldiers at Gallipoli in 1915 alongside the Anzac’s.

At Gallipoli, 14 Ferozepur Sikhs battalion lost 379 men in one day, fighting along with the Anzac soldiers, wiping out half of the battalion. The significant contribution of these soldiers have been long forgotten and this Sikh Anzac War Memorial shall be a tribute to their bravery and mate ship.

More information on the project can be accessed from the Fateh Foundation website that is spearheading the project for the community.
